Park hockey coach sees good season ahead
After a promising start in a 9-3 win over Cooper last winter, the St. Louis Park High boys hockey team went through some hard times on the way to a 5-21 finish.
Part of the problem was that the Orioles had trouble scoring. Mitchell Wynia, who was supposed to be a scoring leader, broke his wrist in the Cooper game. He came back to score some goals after missing 12 games, but it was a case of too little, too late.
Park head coach Tim Donahue said he is happy to have Wynia back in the lineup. Despite missing half the season in 2006-07, he was third in goals scored with 10. Wynia is still only a junior.
Senior forward Benji Shandley is another proven scorer. He netted 11 goals last season.
Last year's assist leader, senior Dustin Brinkman, also returns.
While those are some nice pieces to the puzzle, coach Donahue said the key player is senior goalie Nick Smith.
