Charley Walters is reporting that:
St. Cloud Cathedral sophomore defenseman Nate Schmidt has committed to the Minnesota Gophers.
The NHL Central Scouting report came out Wednesday, and the only Minnesotan projected among the top 30 picks for June's entry draft is Wisconsin-bound Jake Gardiner (No. 22) of Minnetonka.
Including Gardiner, the top five Minnesotans are Aaron Ness (No. 35) of Roseau, Danny Kristo (No. 40) of Eden Prairie, Nick Larson (No. 53) of Apple Valley and Justin Jokinen
(No. 60) of Cloquet.
