Thursdays (12/04) Top Five Performances in Minnesota High School Boys Hockey
I'm adding a new feature to the site. I'll have the top five performances for Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday's action. I'll even let you vote on whether you agree with one or none.
Here are my picks for the best performances by an individual or team from Thurday night (12/04/08):
1. Faribault Falcons | 83 shots on goal vs Austin in a 7-0 win! | Read about it here. | The goalie for Austin is unknown at this point but he'll be the one at Austin High on Friday showing signs of uncontrollable flinching throughout the day.
2. Tyler Sieben (12) - River Lakes | 2-0-0, 0.50 GAA, 72 Saves in two games | 43 Saves Thursday vs. Fergus Falls in 3-1 win | Read what the opposing Fergus Falls paper had to say about it
3. Tyler Voigt (12) & the Rochester Lourdes Eagles | Voigt scored a hat trick and an assist and his team coverted four power-play goals to lead his #4 team in Class A to a drubbing of what should be a good Huskies team this season | Read about it here (Rochester PB) & here (Owatonna PP)
4. Edina Hornets | Eppel 2 + Marshall Everson 2 + Chapman 2 + Taft 1 + Lee 1 = an 8 to 1 trouncing of the Burnsville Blaze | Get used to it as we'll hear about this team on a DAILY basis. A rematch with the Pioneers is next!
5. Rick Weber - Rochester Mayo | Two goals, two assists for the senior defenseman in the Spartans 8-1 thrashing of Mankato East/Loyola
Honorable Mention:
Nick Maiers & the St. Cloud Cathedral Crusaders | Junior goaltender Nick Maiers stopped all 24 shots that he faced and four different players netted a goal apiece to lead the #2 in Class A Crusaders to a 4-0 victory.
Pitlick, Lovick, and Hughes | No, they are not some new lawyer firm in Circle Pines. It's a senior and two junior forwards on the Centennial Cougars team that ripped the twine for 2 goals each against Roseville on Thursday night. They have Edina-like explosiveness.
Side note: I love the Cougars O. It's their D & G that I have concerns about. There is a reason that I have them at #9 in Class AA. There is another Aus in Section 5AA that still has the better D & G on his team and has enough O to make it back to state for another year.
