How they got here:
Virginia/MIB: defeated #9-seed Silver Bay/CC 5-0, #4-seed Duluth Marshall 4-3
Hibbing/Chisholm: defeated #7-seed Two Harbors 6-0, #3-seed Intl Falls 4-2
Records away from home ice:
Virginia/MIB: 13-2-0
Hibbing/Chisholm: 8-6-0
Offense: Virginia/MIB | Virginia/MIB is averaging 5.6 goals per game, Hibbing/Chisholm 3.7.
Virginia's bench is deeper with 19 different players scoring goals this season, Hibbing/Chisholm 13. Hibbing/Chisholm will need to find someone to score goals aside from Aaron Jamnick. I would think that the Blue Devils will focus on stopping Jamnick tonight. Jamnick is averaging 1.2 of the teams 3.7 goals per game.
Defense: Virginia/MIB | Virginia/MIB has shutout six opponents this season, Hibbing/Chisholm four. Virginia/MIB has allowed opponents 20.1 shots per game, Hibbing/Chisholm 23.2.
Goaltending: Virginia/MIB | Virginia/MIB's Will Lustig has a better than 1 goal per game average over Hibbing/Chisholm's Nathan Tromp during the regular season and three percentage points better at save percentage.
The X-factor is going to be whether or not Virginia/MIB can shutdown Aaron Jamnick. I think that is what most opponents focused on late in the season and it seemed to work well. Prior to Hibbing/Chisholm's win on Saturday in the semifinal game against International Falls in where Jamnick scored two goals and an assist, Jamnick has not had a multiple goal game since January 9th against Rochester Mayo. In the Bluejackets first nine games where they went 6-3-0, Jamnick had three 4-goal games, one 3-goal game, and two 2-goal games. Hibbing/Chisholm is 8-0-0 when Jamnick scores 2 or more goals in a game. The team is 8-9-1 when he doesn't. That says a lot about how much this year's team is about Aaron Jamnick.
Virginia/MIB's team is too well balanced in scoring and stronger in goal to not win this game. They will advance to the Xcel Energy Center next week.
