Note: If you didn't know already, the 4-0-0 Jaguars are G-O-O-D. They are averaging eight goals per game in their first four games and have not scored less than seven in a game yet.

Bloomington Kennedy 7, St. Louis Park 4
BK: Sam Merchant (3, 4) 2g, 2a, Neil Hultgren (2, 3) 2g, 2a

Note: Keep an eye on the 3-1-0 Warriors in Section 8AA. Their next two games are against Section foes St. Cloud Tech and Moorhead.

Note: Win #1 for the Bison.

Burnsville 3, Apple Valley 1
B: Adam Smyth (2, 3) 2g, 1a, Jace Childs (5) 1g, 2a
B: Jack Bunce 31 Saves | Win
AV: A. J. Michaelson (3)
AV: Aaron Gretz 24 Saves | Loss
Note: Upset? Or, is Section 2AA just a whole lot better than 3AA?

Centennial 6, Coon Rapids 0
C: Riley Colvard (1, 2) 2g |1sh|, 1a, James Hughes (2, 3)
C: Adam Lovick (1), Charlie Aus (1)
C: Don Nalezny 12 Saves | Shutout Win
CR: Patrick Drazkowski 26 Saves | Loss
Note: The Cougars get their first win of the season in three games. I still expect the Cougars to be a contender in 5AA.

Champlin Park 4, Maple Grove 4 OT-TIE
CP: Travis Swan (1), Alec Robinson (2), Alex Borrell (1), Garrett VanTuyl (1)
CP: Alex Bickford 22 Saves | Tie
MG: Alec Horton (3) 1g, 1a, Steve Popowitz (2) 1g, 1a,
MG: Chase Carey (1), Tony Paulson (2)
MG: Ryan Coyne 18 Saves | Tie
Note: Maple Grove scored two late 3rd period goals to salvage the tie. Paulson scored for Maple Grove w/ 1:27 left and Horton scored w/ 42 seconds left.

Cretin-Derham Hall 5, Mounds View 4
CDH: Jesse Perron (2) 1g, 1a | Perron scored the GWG w/ 30 seconds left in the game
CDH: Tony Barbato (4, 5) 2g, 2a, Bob Kinne (3) 1g, 3a, Andy Read (1)
CDH: Joe Schneider 16 Saves | Win
MV: Phil Boje (1) 1g, 1a, Tony Gazich (1), Taylor Martin (1), Jeff Anderson (1)
MV: Culver 22 Saves | Loss
Note: Cretin-Derham Hall is 3-0-0 and is favored by some to win Section 3AA. In those three wins this season, Tony Barbato, Bob Kinne, and Jesse Perron have scored 10 of the team's 11 total goals. I think Cretin-Derham Hall will struggle to score when they face a team that can match up well defensively against that talented first line.

Delano/Rockford 3, St. Michael-Albertville 2 OT
D/R: Jack Emmer (4) | Emmer scored the GWG 41 seconds into overtime
D/R: Adam Ernst (2), Karsten McGowan (2)
D/R: Jason Dzurik 22 Saves | Win
STMA: Marty Mueller (4) 1g, 1a, Kevin Diers (1)
STMA: Jake Turnquist 31 Saves | Loss
Note: Delano/Rockford wins their fourth game in a row.

DC: Mitch Swenson (1), Ian Thoennes (1)
DC: Bret Gitar 18 Saves | Shutout Win
PCRC: Thomas Pitzen 30 Saves | Loss
Note: Kyle Rivers scored the first goal of the game and his first of the year after returning from serving a suspension. Duluth Central is now 3-0-0. Pine City/Rush City has yet to score this season after being shutout in their first two games.

Eagan 1, Lakeville North 0
OT
E: Alec Merchant (3) | Merchant score the GWG at 4:31 into overtime
E: Tommy Bodeker 22 Saves | Win
LN: Charlie Lindgren 39 Saves | Loss
Note: Eagan doesn't score a lot of goals but they win. Minus the loss to the U. S. Women's Olympic team, the Wildcats are 3-0-0.

Eastview 4, Rosemount 2
E: Max Smith (1) 1g, 1a, Jon Cobb (2), Kurt Bradley (1), Michael Chacich (1)
E: Ryan O'Shea 22 Saves | Win
R: Brady Loew (4, 5)
R: Fairchild 19 Saves | Loss
Note: After back-to-back games of being shutout and only having scored one lone goal this year, the Eastview Lightning found some spark against the Irish.

Eden Prairie 7, Chaska/Chanhassen 2
EP: Kyle Rau (3, 4, 5) Hat Trick |1sh|, 1a, Mitch Rogge (2, 3) 2g, 2a
EP: Luc Gerdes (2, 3) |1sh|
EP: Andrew Ford 17 Saves | Win
CC: Jack Storo (2), Corey Geehan (1)
CC: Danny Kreuser 25 Saves | Loss
Note: They changed the saves total for Ford from 35 to 17 and Kreuser from 48 to 25. I thought there had to be an error because the Eagles do not give up that many shots.

Elk River/Zimmerman 9, Anoka 1
ERZ: Ben Jaremko (3, 4, 5) Hat Trick |1sh|, 2a, Ryan Jaremko (1, 2, 3) Hat Trick
ERZ: Austen Bryan (2) 1g, 1a, Levi Lutz (1) 1g, 1a, Nick Lowe (1) 1g, 1a
ERZ: Chad Hennum 3a
ERZ: Anders Franke 11 Saves | Win
A: Erik Dahlgren (1)
A: Michael Leismeister 26 Saves | Loss
Note: Elk River/Zimmerman is ranked 8th in Class AA and I am starting to think they are underrated. The Elks are extremely tough. I am eyeballing their schedule next week. Specifically, they have Eden Prairie, Edina, and Grand Rapids next Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The Elks could make some heads turn if they play well those three days.

Eveleth-Gilbert/Mesabi East 4, Two Harbors 3
EGME: Seth Korpi (1) 1g, 2a, Matt Roberts (1) 1g, 1a
EGME: Cole Axelson (1), Andy Swanson (1)
EGME: Jesse Schilling 22 Saves | Win
TH: Ben Ruberg (3, 4), Scott Comrie (2)
TH: Aaron Lee 20 Saves | Loss

Faribault 5, Mankato West 1
F: Bo Putrah (6, 7, 8) Hat Trick, George Richie (5, 6), Brandon Parker 3a
F: Aaron Forgaard 12 Saves | Win
MW: Matt Campbell (4)
MW: Jake Kaufman 34 Saves | Loss
Note: Right now, the Falcons are heads above the rest of the teams in Section 1A. They are 4-0-0 and they easily defeated perennial contenders New Prague and now Mankato West.

Hastings 4, East Ridge 1
H: Max Fox (1, 2), Nate Flynn (3), Austin Nelson (2)
H: Tommy Sieh 10 Saves | Win
ER: Zach Edwards (2)
ER: Andrew McDonough 20 Saves | Loss

Hill-Murray 10, Henry Sibley 0
HM: Ryan Holler (2, 3, 4) Hat Trick, 1a, Willie Faust (4, 5), Ben Bahe (1, 2)
HM: Chris Casto (2) 1g, 1a, Kevin Schulze (1), Zach LaValle (1)
HM: Jordan Johnson 3a
HM: Tim Shaughnessy 14 Saves | Shutout Win
HS: Lynch 41 Saves | Loss

Mahtomedi 11, Richfield 0
M: Ben Marshall (1, 2) 2g, 3a, Charlie Adams (4, 5) 2g, 1a, Andrew Blegen (1) 1g, 1a
M: Tanner Jordan (2) 1g, 1a, Johno May (1) 1g, 1a, Patrick Kegley (1) 1g, 1a
M: Nick Nelson (1), Mike Rose (3), Ryan Gregory (1)
M: Brad Wohlers 16 Saves | Shutout Win
R: Donovan Keller 9 Saves | Loss

Marshall 3, New Ulm 2
M: Shane Kunde (3, 4), Aaron Antony (5)
M: Mitch Campion 35 Saves | Win
NU: Zach Hoffman (1) 1g, 1a, Adam Loose (1)
NU: Blake Burgau 16 Saves | Loss
Note: I thought Marshall could take this game and they did, BUT, from the game article I read in the New Ulm Journal and from perusing the stats, this game was only as close as Mitch Campion kept the Tigers in it. It's a big win for the Tigers in any respect because it gives them the head-to-head edge over New Ulm in determining the Section 3A seedings down the line. Marshall will face the other two 3A major contenders, Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato and Hutchinson, in January and February. On the other side, New Ulm had been without many of their varsity players for the first two games of the year due to a suspension handed down because of an incident that took place during a school activity this past fall. The Eagles should be able to shake off these early season losses and get back on track.

Moorhead 4, Bemidji 3
M: Kyle Kraemer (1, 2), Bryan Christian (1) Sean Kunkel (1)
M: Logan Marks 13 Saves | Win
B: Braden Devescovi (3), Rylee Curb (2), Steve Heller (3)
B: Miah Graves 28 Saves | Loss
Note: I listened to most of this game on the internet. It sounded like Moorhead was in control for most of the game until about the last two minutes. Bemidji scored two goals during desperation time. Moorhead scored an empty net goal in between the two goals. So, it went 3-1, 3-2, 4-2, 4-3. So, as of now, Roseau is my top team in 8AA, Moorhead 2nd, Bemidji 3rd. By the way, Roseau is at Moorhead next Tuesday night.

Morris/Benson Area 8, Prairie Centre Area 5
MB: Tyler Hansen (3, 4, 5) Hat Trick, Mac Beyer (1, 2) 2g, 2a, Luke Schwarz (3, 4)
MB: Tanner Picht (4)
MB: Alex Sinclair 49 Saves | Win
PC: Tyler Schultz (1, 2) 2g, 2a, Nate Mettenburg (3) 1g, 3a
PC: Derek Holm (2), Jason Christianson (4)
PC: Justin Brever 15 Saves | Loss

Mound-Westonka 2, Rogers 1
MW: Colin Mayer (1), Riley Hanson (2)
MW: Ben Myers 22 Saves | Win
R: Zach Hnath (1)
R: Austin Eakman 24 Saves | Loss
Note: These are two teams that should be good but are struggling to score goals.

North St. Paul 7, Simley 0
NSP: Zac McCarver (3, 4) 2g, 3a, Cory Stepaniak (1, 2) 2g, 2a
NSP: Nick Hinz (2) 1g, 1a, Nate Cassidy (1), Tad Nielsen (1)
NSP: Peter Toy 5 Saves | Shutout Win
S: Andrew Nelson 51 Saves | Loss

Northern Lakes 3, Wadena-Deer Creek 1
NL: Sam Johnson (4, 5, 6) Hat Trick
NL: Joey Bergquist 15 Saves | Win
WDC: Brennan Wallace (3)
WDC: Tyler Muehler 47 Saves | Loss
Note: Sam Johnson's hat trick on Thursday night comes back-to-back with his 3-goal performance against Walker-Hackensack-Akeley on Tuesday night.

Park (Cottage Grove) 4, Woodbury 2
PCG: Brandyn Graff (3, 4, 5) Hat Trick, Kirby Quebodeaux (1) 1g, 1a
PCG: Jeremy Larson 36 Saves | Win
W: Mike Mezzano (1) 1g, 1a, Max Gaede (6)
W: Patrick Moore 37 MIN, 16 Saves on 19 Shots | Loss
W: Michael Ness 14 MIN, 9 Saves on 9 Shots
Note: Double-take! Woodbury lost to Park? Park was 4-21-1 last year. Woodbury beat Park twice last year by scores of 4-1 and 7-4. The year before that, 2007-2008, Woodbury beat Park in two games by a combined score of 10-1. Royals are/were expected to go far this year. Did the new school, East Ridge, have some sort of negative affect on Woodbury this year or are they just experiencing some unusual early season struggles? Kudos to Brandyn Graff and Park for a great win against the Royals. Is this a good sign of things to come for the Wolfpack?

Red Wing 4, Rochester Lourdes 2
RW: Patrick Noesen (2, 3, 4) Hat Trick | Noesen scored the GWG w/ 1:32 left
RW: Jared Nelson (1) en w/3.5 seconds left
RW: Sam Amendolar 30 Saves | Win
RL: Alex Dewitz (2), Alec Brandrup (1)
RL: Nick Heimer 8 Saves | Loss
Note: Red Wing needed this win. They were 0-3-0 and they were giving up an average of 7.33 goals per game to their opponents in their first three games. After three bad losses so far this season, the Wingers needed to find a cure that ailed them. Good goaltending with a win is a good prescription. Red Wing led this game throughout but they were outshot by Rochester Lourdes, 32-12.

Rochester Century 5, Albert Lea 2
RC: Cory Kautz (5, 6, 7) Hat Trick, Connor Faupel (3) 1g, 2a, Nick Raehsler (1)
RC: Brock Kautz 18 Saves | Win
AL: David Enstad (1), Luke Cheever (1)
AL: John Wrolson 26 Saves | Loss
Note: That is the first hat trick for Kautz and the first loss for Albert Lea this season.

Rochester John Marshall 5, Rochester Mayo 3
RJM: Zach Johnson (2, 3, 4) Hat Trick |1sh|, Matt Broman (1), Eric Mackey (1)
RJM: Bryan King 20 Saves | Win
RM: Spencer Lee (6) 1g, 1a, Marcus Nigbur (3), Alex Heroff (1)
RM: Alexander VanGalder 20 Saves | Loss
Note: John Marshall scored the only two goals in the third period to pick up the win. The last time John Marshall had defeated Mayo was back in the 2006-2007 season.

Roseau 12, East Grand Forks 2
R: Adam Knochenmus (6, 7, 8) Hat Trick, 2a, Cole Kostrzewski (4, 5) 2g, 2a
R: Kevin Erickson (2, 3) 2g, 1a, Josh Erickson (1) 1g, 3a
R: Travis Connell (1) 1g, 1a, Lyle Norman (1) 1g, 1a
R: Ryan Leverington (1), Chase Broten (2), Shane Omdahl 4a
R: Ethan Kvidt 20 Saves | Win
EGF: Cory Mack (3, 4), Jake Useldinger 2a, Brandon Peabody 2a
EGF: Shane Wasylow 13 Saves on 20 shots | Loss
EGF: Beau Scheving 19 Saves on 24 shots
Note: Knochenmus scores his 2nd hat trick in back-to-back games. The Rams can pretty much score at will but they do give up quite a few goals. That might be an issue when they face a team like Moorhead next week who are more focused on defense.

St. Cloud Tech 9, River Lakes 1
SCT: Blake Vogel (1, 2, 3) Hat Trick
SCT: Alex Kennedy (4, 5) 2g, 1a, Jobe Peterson (2, 3) 2g, 1a
SCT: Ryan Heaton (2), Cameron Kluver (1)
SCT: Cole Lundell ?? Saves | Win
RL: Joe Griffin (1)
RL: Tyler Sieben ?? Saves | Loss

Somerset (WI) 4, Robbinsdale Cooper 1
S: Robert Flom 1g, Isaac Haukom 1g, Sean Conrad 1g, Mikal Urhammer 1g
S: Dylan Rivard 39 Saves | Win
RC: Jack Halverson (1)
RC: Trent Kallas 21 Saves | Loss

Spring Lake Park 9, St. Paul Academy/MPA 2
SLP: Chris Benson (2, 3, 4, 5) 4 goals, Luke Gerding (3, 4) 2g, 2a
SLP: Jorde Ranum (4) 1g, 1a, AJ Fossen (3) 1g, 1a, Kirby Ronning (1), Nick Turbitt 4a
SLP: Mike Nelson 24 Saves | Win
SPA: Wyatt Wenzel (8), Ian Middlebrook (2)
SPA: Pete Simpson 33 Saves | Loss
Note: Spring Lake Park knows how to put the puck in the net. They are now 4-0-0 and averaging seven goals per game. I do not see anyone slowing them down any time soon.

St. Thomas Academy 8, Tartan 5
STA: Christian Isackson (2, 3, 4) Hat Trick, 1a, Zach Schroeder Hat Trick (1, 2, 3) |2sh|
STA: Matt Kroska (1) sh, Noah Gavin (1), Justin Crandall 3a
STA: Kurt Altrichter 26 Saves | Win
T: Mitch Rowe (1) 1g, 2a, Jake Horton (5) 1g, 2a
T: Carl Krieger (1), Phil Spock (1), Sean Pavelich (1)
T: Alex Gierke 27 Saves
Note: St. Thomas Academy outscored Tartan 5-1 in the third period. The Cadets also had three shorthanded goals in the game, two by Schroeder.

Stillwater Area 7, Roseville Area 0
S: Alex Chuhel (3, 4) 2g, 1a, Wilson Housley (1) 1g, 1a, Brandon Schuman (1) 1g, 1a
S: Blake Dochniak (2), Cory Erchul (1), Sam Casey (2)
S: Tristan Pennella ?? Saves | Shutout Win
R: Brian Comiskey ?? Saves | Loss
Note: If this was the first game of the year, I would have expected this outcome because Roseville was one of the most depleted teams due to graduation in Class AA coming into this season. But, Roseville started out HOT by winning their first three games. They outscored their first three opponents 16-4. On the other side, Stillwater survived a 3-2 overtime win up in Grand Rapids in their first game but then were defeated convincingly their next two games. Stillwater looked hungry Thursday night and they took it out on the Raiders.

Waseca 8, Sleepy Eye Area 0
W: Pat Flor (1, 2) 2g, 3a, Pat O'Neil (1, 2) 2g, 2a, Brad McIntosh (2, 3)
W: Blake Malecha (1) 1g, 4a, Carter Hansen (1)
W: Tom Eaton ?? Saves | Shutout Win
SE: Josh Kopacek ?? Saves | Loss

Willmar 2, Sauk Rapids-Rice 1
W: Liam Johnston (6), Grant Schow (3)
W: Ben Leitch 33 Saves | Win
SRR: Ethan Prow (1)
SRR: Blake Legatt 11 Saves | Loss
W: Schow scored the game-winning goal w/ 6:05 left in the game.

Windom Area 7, Worthington/RL-B 1
W: Hunter Johnson (3, 4), Mitchell Baumhoefner (4), Cody Mischke (1),
W: Joseph Voth (1), Adam Eisenmenger (3)
W: Ethan Villeneuve 16 Saves
WRLB: Mitch Jensen (1)
WRLB: Goaltender Unknown 9 Saves

Winona 8, Farmington 6
W: Jay Moran (5, 6, 7, 8) 4 goals, Thomas Lueck (4, 5), Aaron Theis (4) 1g, 3a
W: Blake Wilcox (3)
W: Garrett Welle 32 Saves | Win
F: Matt Provost (1, 2) 2g, 2a, Tyler Grubb (4, 5) 2g, 2a, Dan Handberg (2) 1g, 2a
F: Justin Rees (1)
F: Trevor Zangs 25 Saves | Loss
Note: Winona's Jay Moran scored all four of his goals in the 3rd period to help the Winhawks to a comeback victory. Farmington led 5-4 going into the 3rd period. Farmington led 4-1 at one point in the 2nd period. Looks like I predicted the 8 goals correctly for Winona but the Winhawks are still giving up too many goals.
