Class AA Rankings | Week 10 - January 24th, 2011

CLASS AA | CLASS A
1.
Hill-Murray 12-3-1
1/27 St. Thomas Academy
1/29 Mahtomedi

Three losses:
Burnsville (11-3-2) 4-6
Benilde-St. Margaret's (13-2-0) 1-3
Eden Prairie (10-4-1) 1-2

Total amount of goals lost by: 5
Overall record of the teams lost to: 34-9-3 (.791)

Number of AA teams played above .500: 10 of 16 (62.5%)
- Since prior to the start of season, I still believe that the Pioneers are the team to beat in Class AA. They have a complete team on offense, defense, and in goal with an experienced coach that wins when it matters. I do not expect Hill-Murray to lose again this season.
2.
Wayzata 13-3-1
1/25 Burnsville
1/29 at Minnetonka

Three losses:
Moorhead (11-4-1) 1-2
Maple Grove (12-3-1) 2-4
Moorhead (11-4-1) 1-4

Total amount of goals lost by: 6
Overall record of the teams lost to: 34-11-3 (.756)

Number of AA teams played above .500: 14 of 17 (82.4%)
- Wayzata has the best winning percentage against teams with a .500 winning percentage or better. With their bantam teams dominant in recent years, Wayzata's future as a high hockey dynasty could begin this year.
3.
Duluth East 13-3-0

7.

Number of AA teams played above .500: 5 of 17 (29.4%)
11.
Eagan 11-5-1
1/27 at Lakeville South
1/29 Lakeville North

The Wildcats can beat anybody on any given night and have defeated their biggest foe in Section 3AA, Apple Valley 4-2, this year. They have also defeated Eden Prairie.

Eagan has lost five games this season, four by just one goal. Two were not-so-good losses to Bloomington Jefferson and Lakeville North.
12.
Apple Valley 12-5-0
1/27 Bloomington Jefferson
1/29 at Prior Lake

They are still giving up goals but they are back at scoring them too. They had a very nice 6-3 win over Duluth East last Tuesday and they put up 12 goals on Eastview last Saturday.

In four of their five losses this season, they lost by two or more goals.
13.
Grand Rapids 13-3-1
1/25 Bemidji
1/28 at International Falls

The Thunderhawks have two wins against Cloquet/Esko/Carlton and wins against Roseau and Edina in Class AA. That is not much of a win resume.

The T-Hawks will face Bemidji in Grand Rapids on Tuesday. Both teams faced Hermantown this season. Bemidji defeated Hermantown 6-2, Grand Rapids lost to Hermantown 5-1. Both teams need to provide a little MORE proof that they are legit.
14.
Moorhead 11-4-1
1/25 Roseau
1/27 at Brainerd/Pillager/Pierz
1/29 Centennial

The Spuds have won seven out of their last eight games. Their best wins this year were against #2AA Wayzata TWICE and they were badly outshot in both. Thanks again junior goaltender Michael Bitzer. They have been beaten badly by both Duluth East and Eden Prairie.

They lost to Roseau early in the season and they will face each other again Tuesday night.
15.
Academy of Holy Angels 10-5-0
1/24 at Red Wing
1/27 Chanhassen
1/29 Benilde-St. Margaret's

Defeated Eden Prairie 5-3 but the Stars were smothered by Hill-Murray 6-1 (shots 31-10 Hill) two weeks ago. They also have losses to Edina and Minnetonka. Good wins against Burnsville, Stillwater, and, again Eden Prairie. Yet, not quite a top 10 team.
16.
Blaine 11-3-1
1/27 Maple Grove
1/29 at Elk River/Zimmerman

Blaine is here simply because they defeated White Bear Lake 3-0 during the Schwan Cup and White Bear Lake stuck it to Stillwater in their first meeting of the season.

The 5-0 loss to Centennial (7-8-1) last week showed me that Blaine is not as good as their record may reflect and Centennial is not as bad as theirs.

Blaine has yet to defeat a top 10 team even though their three ties were against top 10 teams Maple Grove, Minnetonka, and Edina.
17.
White Bear Lake 11-4-1
1/27 at Park (Cottage Grove)
1/29 at East Ridge

The Bears are 6-0-1 in their last seven games.
18.
Stillwater Area 10-4-1
1/27 at Woodbury
1/29 Forest Lake

The Ponies are off and running winning their last five in a row.
You
pick'em
It's a mess after Stillwater.

Bloomington Jefferson (7-6-2) - Only two wins against teams at .500 or above, Eagan and Lakeville North.

Centennial (7-8-1) - starting to surge, five in a row, and needs it to continue. But, still, under .500.

Cloquet/E/C (12-5-0) - Best wins - vs. Bemidji and ??

Cretin-Derham Hall (7-7-3) - falling fast, 0-2-2 in their last four

Elk River/Zimmerman (8-9-0) - Confusing team. Defeated Bloomington Jefferson, Centennial, and Holy Angels while blown out by top tier teams and losses to Robbinsdale Armstrong TWICE and Osseo.

Lakeville South (7-5-2) - 5-0-1 in their last six games and they look like the favorites to win Section 1AA. They have the potential to defeat top teams.

Roseau (7-7-0) - From valleys to peaks to back on down to the valley. The Rams lost their last two games soundly against Warroad and Bemidji. Moorhead is next.

Roseville Area (8-5-3) - There is a lot of parity in the Suburban East Conference. The Raiders are just slightly above the fray, no wins against AA teams outside of the conference.
