Do you remember the 2009-2010 Section 1AA Championship game? I can bet you that Lakeville South does. The Cougars rolled in the first two rounds of last year's playoffs and looked prime to be heading for the X. In the championship game, they faced Lakeville North, a team that Lakeville South dominated twice during the regular season, 4-0 and 5-1. In that Section 1AA Final, it was not the same Lakeville North. Charlie Lindgren stopped all 26 Cougars shots and the Panthers shocked the Cougars 5-0.
In 2010-2011, the same scenario is in place. It is eerily similar to the year before. The Cougars had no problem defeating Lakeville North twice again during this regular season. Both teams have very similar records as they had last year. Both Lindgren and Brady Frahm have returned as the starters in goal. This year, I do not expect Lakeville South to take the Panthers, Charlie Lindgren for granted and the Panthers defense is worse this season than the year before.
My preseason pick of Rochester Century sure was lame. On paper, I thought these Panthers were going to be better than last season and have a legitimate shot at winning the Section. They are far from it. All of the other teams in Section 1AA are still far behind both Lakeville teams. All three Class AA Rochester teams are a combined 3-9-0 against other Class AA teams not in Section 1AA.
