2011 Upper Midwest High School Elite League - Week 5 Recap

Colin Hernon of Bloomington Jefferson scored three goals and Zach Thompson stopped 15 shots in a 9-0 victory over Great Plains on Sunday, Oct. 9, at New Hope Ice Arena as Team Northeast completed an undefeated Week 5 in the Upper Midwest High School Elite Hockey League.

Team Northeast opened the week with a 7-4 victory over Team Northwest on Tuesday, Oct. 4, and beat Team Wisconsin 2-0 on Saturday, Oct. 8, behind a 30-save performance from goaltender Nick Malvin of Blaine.

Team Northeast and Shattuck-St. Mary’s, which also went 3-0 during the Elite League’s Showcase Week, each earned a bonus point in the league standings.

Shattuck-St. Mary’s opened Week 5 with a 3-2 triumph over Team Southwest on Wednesday, Oct. 5, as Nicholas Petralla’s third-period goal stood up as the game winner.

Vinni Lettieri of Minnetonka scored three goals and added four assists for Team Southwest as it went 1-1-1 over the week. Team Southwest beat Team North 10-4 on Saturday and tied Team Southeast 4-4 on Sunday.

League scoring leader Justin Kloos of Lakeville South scored two goals and added an assist on Sunday as league-leading Team Southeast skated to a 4-4 tie with Team Southwest.

Team Southeast beat Team North 6-3 and lost to Team Northwest 4-3 on Saturday.

Notes
– With two weeks left in the regular season schedule, Team Southeast sits atop the league standings with a 10-2-3 record and 24 points. Team Northeast is in second place with a 9-3-3 record and 22 points.
– Justin Kloos, a senior forward, has 16 goals and 18 assists for a league-best 34 points in 15 games. Team Southeast’s Jake Guentzel of Hill-Murray is in second place in the league scoring race with eight goals and 20 assists for 28 points.
– Entering Week 5, Dylan Parker of Duluth East had a 3.25 goals-against average to lead all league goaltenders who have played more than 180 minutes.
– Blake Cates of Stillwater had a league-best .907 save percentage.
