Game notes:

1st period:

Jordan Palusky scored on a 5-on-3 powerplay.

The hitting has been incredible. Nate Schmidt laid out a streaking Ben Marshall. That was one of many hits put on by both teams.

Shorthanded goal by Nate Schmidt! Incredible moves by Schmidt getting around one defender, splitting two others, and then took a shot while falling down on the ice getting it by goaltender Brad Wohlers.

It was a dominate first period by the Crusaders.

There were six total penalties, three by each team.

2nd period:

Uneventful second period so far almost four minutes in. The Crusaders have had a few shots on goal but no real good scoring chances while Mahtomedi has barely been in the Crusaders zone.

Nate Schmidt turned the puck over on the blue line in his own end and it caused a 2-on-1
opportunity for the Zephyrs that Ben Holker turned into a nice goal that appeared to go underneath Nick Maiers.

The goal by the Zephyrs has sparked the team as they have put pressure on Maiers.

Alex Koopmeiners for the Crusaders went around the net and had a nice look but shot the puck right into Wohlers glove. The Cruaders are now back putting pressure on Wohlers.

ALERT: Ben Marshall was taken by stretcher out of the building. He is awake and alert. He has pain in his back and/or side. It was the hit that Nate Schmidt put on him in the 1st period. The word from the X says that it may be his spleen.

Cathedral scores! Nice deflection on Sam Lommel's shot by Jordan Palusky while he was being defended out front. He deflected it off the shaft of his stick.

End of the 2nd period.

3rd period:

St. Cloud Cathedral scores earlier in the third. Jordan Palusky picks up the hat trick! Wait! Check that. Alex Koopmeiners and Palusky were on Wohlers doorstep hacking at the puck and Koopmeiners got credit for the goal. Per the replay, it showed that both players hit the puck at the same time but Palusky's stick was behind Koopmeiners. The Crusaders are completely dominating the game.

Mahtomedi gets a goal off the skate of a Crusader skate. Nick Montanari threw the puck at the net from the corner and it hit off the skate of Bret Schwinghammer and went five-hole on goaltender Nick Maiers.

Great save by Brad Wohlers at about the 12 minute mark. Jordan Palusky was denied his hat trick again while putting pressure on with a shot from out front. Crusader sticks were raised but Wohlers denies their fifth goal of the game.

Jon Larkin scores for Cathedral. Nice play by Sam Lommel behind the net passing the puck to a wide open Larkin in front of the net.

It was complete domination by St. Cloud Cathedral in this one. The Crusaders are going to be tough to beat but they most likely will have Warroad next. That should be an excellent game.

End of the game.
