I struggled a little bit this morning with ranking the top three teams. I momentarily placed Warroad at number one. Yes, St. Thomas Academy has lost three games but those losses were twice to #1AA Minnetonka and once to #5AA Blaine. Breck School's only loss was to St. Thomas Academy. Warroad had a very nice win against #9AA Osseo. That has been their biggest win so far. The decision not to put Warroad at number one came down to their loss to unranked Grand Rapids AND the comparison in wins of Warroad and Breck School over Orono.
Like last year, I think it comes down to depth. You have to stop one extremely talented line on Warroad. Nelson, Hebel, Stoskopf is arguably the best in the state in Class A. With St. Thomas Academy and Breck, you have to stop one extremely talented line on each team but then you also have to stop a very good 2nd and 3rd line on each.
The top five teams in Class A are top notch and then the search for elite teams after that becomes more difficult.
