1. | Wayzata 9-0-0 12/28 Centennial | St. Louis Park Recreation Invitational 12/29 St. Louis Park Recreation Invitational 12/30 St. Louis Park Recreation Invitational |
The Trojans defeated then #16 Roseville Area 3-1 last week. They have outscored their opponents 32-10 and 6.4 goals per game in their last five games. If I were to make a prediction, they will face Centennial on Tuesday, Bloomington Jefferson on Wednesday, and either Eden Prairie or Benilde-St. Margaret's on Thursday.
2. | Duluth East 6-1-0 12/29 Edina | Schwan Cup - Gold Bracket 12/30 Schwan Cup - Gold Bracket 12/31 or 1/1 Schwan Cup - Gold Bracket |
Duluth East traveled to then #18 Moorhead last Wednesday and dominated the Spuds on their home ice, 6-0. The Hounds have shutout three of their first seven opponents, two shutouts in a row. The Hounds are THAT good and the scary thing is, aside from senior goaltender JoJo Jeanetta, that their best players are juniors or younger. They will face their biggest test since Wayzata when they face #4 Edina on Wednesday at the Schwan Cup.
3. | Benilde-St. Margaret's 6-0-0 12/28 Eden Prairie | St. Louis Park Recreation Invitational 12/29 St. Louis Park Recreation Invitational 12/30 St. Louis Park Recreation Invitational |
The Red Knights defeated then #13 Maple Grove last week, 4-3. I have to be honest and say that I still don't have a great feel about this team. In six games, they have not allowed more than three goals in any game. They have defeated three Top 20 Class AA teams including Hill-Murray, Minnetonka, and Maple Grove. They seem to be more focused on their defense this season. Yet, I struggled to put them in the #3 spot this week. They face #5 Eden Prairie this week on their home ice. That should provide a better indicator at where this team is at.
4. | Edina 5-2-0 12/29 Duluth East | Schwan Cup - Gold Bracket 12/30 Schwan Cup - Gold Bracket 12/31 or 1/1 Schwan Cup - Gold Bracket |
Edina had no games last week. The Hornets should have a defensive battle with #2 Duluth East in their quarterfinal game in the Schwan Cup with the Hounds. Edina tends to struggle to score against teams that have a good defense/goaltending.
5. | Eden Prairie 5-2-0 12/28 #3 Benilde-St. Margaret's | St. Louis Park Recreation Invitational 12/29 St. Louis Park Recreation Invitational 12/30 St. Louis Park Recreation Invitational |
Eden Prairie lost its second game in a row last week against then #12 Eagan, 4-2. The Eagles are 0-2-0 when Kyle Rau does not score.
6. | Apple Valley 7-2-0 12/30 East Ridge |
Apple Valley had no problem with Prior Lake last week winning 7-0. They now have four shutouts this season in nine games. No holiday tournaments for the Eagles this week.
7. | Burnsville 4-1-1 12/29 Academy of Holy Angels | Schwan Cup - Silver Bracket 12/30 Schwan Cup - Silver Bracket 12/31 or 1/1 Schwan Cup - Silver Bracket |
The Blaze had a nice win against Lakeville South last week, 7-4. Burnsville may see a little resistance in the Schwan Cup possibly from Roseville or Stillwater but I'm expecting the Blaze to win that Silver Bracket.
8. | Hill-Murray 5-2-0 12/29 Breck School | Schwan Cup - Gold Bracket 12/30 Schwan Cup - Gold Bracket 12/31 or 1/1 Schwan Cup - Gold Bracket |
The Pioneers look to be back on the right track as they won their fourth game in a row last week defeating #10 White Bear Lake 3-0. They have allowed only four goals in their last four games.
9. | Grand Rapids 8-1-0 12/28 Spring Lake Park | Perpich North-South 12/29 Lakeville North | Perpich North-South 12/30 Mahtomedi | Perpich North-South |
It was a huge win for the Thunderhawks last Tuesday against Brainerd/P/P, 9-2. They should continue to roll this week while hosting three games to two above average Class A teams and an unpredictable Section 1AA team in Lakeville North, winners of their last four games.
10. | Eagan 3-2-1 12/27 North St. Paul | South St. Paul Premier Tournament 12/28 Woodbury | South St. Paul Premier Tournament 12/29 South St. Paul Premier Tournament |
Eagan bounced back nicely this week by upsetting then #3 Eden Prairie 4-2 last Wednesday. Eagan's two losses this season were by a total of two goals, one in overtime.
11. | White Bear Lake 5-2-0 12/29 Blaine | Schwan Cup - Gold Bracket 12/30 Schwan Cup - Gold Bracket 12/31 or 1/1 Schwan Cup - Gold Bracket |
After I stated last week that White Bear Lake scores goals, they were shutout by rival Hill-Murray, 3-0. The Bears will face the Bengals on Wednesday in the Schwan Cup.
12. | Stillwater Area 4-1-1 12/29 Rogers | Schwan Cup - Silver Bracket 12/30 Schwan Cup - Silver Bracket 12/31 or 1/1 Schwan Cup - Silver Bracket |
The Ponies defeated Minnetonka, 2-1, last Tuesday. Like Blaine, they are not overwhelming opponents but they are winning.
13. | Minnetonka 4-2-1 12/29 St. Thomas Academy | Schwan Cup - Gold Bracket 12/30 Schwan Cup - Gold Bracket 12/31 or 1/1 Schwan Cup - Gold Bracket |
Minnetonka had a tough, but not disastrous week losing to then #15 Stillwater Area 2-1 and then tying then #14 Blaine 3-3.
14. | Blaine 5-0-2 12/29 White Bear Lake | Schwan Cup - Gold Bracket 12/30 Schwan Cup - Gold Bracket 12/31 or 1/1 Schwan Cup - Gold Bracket |
Blaine is not blowing away their competition but they are winning. Last week they defeated Anoka, 4-3, and then tied then #7 Minnetonka, 3-3.
15. | Maple Grove 5-2-1 12/28 Elk River/Zim | St. Louis Park Recreation Invitational 12/29 St. Louis Park Recreation Invitational 12/30 St. Louis Park Recreation Invitational |
The Crimson had a tough loss last week to then #5 Benilde-St. Margaret's last Tuesday, 4-3.
16. | Roseville Area 5-2-0 12/29 Blake School | Schwan Cup - Silver Bracket 12/30 Schwan Cup - Silver Bracket 12/31 or 1/1 Schwan Cup - Silver Bracket |
The Raiders lost a battle with then #1 Wayzata last Thursday, 3-1. Roseville needs to find some offense and it would not take much since they are allowing just 1.57 goals per game to their opponents
17. | Bemidji 7-0-1 12/28 Cloquet/Esko/Carlton | Heritage Classic 12/29 Heritage Classic 12/30 Heritage Classic |
The Lumberjacks did not have any games last week.
18. | Bloomington Jefferson 3-3-0 12/28 Centennial | St. Louis Park Recreation Invitational 12/29 St. Louis Park Recreation Invitational 12/30 St. Louis Park Recreation Invitational |
The Jaguars seem to be turning things around after a slow start. They shutout their last two opponents, Centennial, 4-0, and Bloomington Kennedy, 6-0.
19. | Roseau 2-5-0 12/28 Lake of the Woods | Roseau Classic 12/29 Mandan (ND) | Roseau Classic 12/30 Alexandria | Roseau Classic |
The Rams have a potent offense, the defense is not bad, but the goaltending is the question mark. They had no games last week.
20. | St. Cloud Tech 6-1-0 12/28 Sauk Rapids-Rice | Granite City Classic 12/29 Little Falls | Granite City Classic 12/30 St. Cloud Apollo | Granite City Classic |
The Tigers lost 4-1 to Benilde-St. Margaret's to start the season and they have went 6-0 since, outscoring their opponents 39-9, winning by three or more goals in each. The next three games after the Granite City Classic will tell how good the Tigers may actually be. They will see undefeated Bemidji, Warroad, and then perennial contender Moorhead. |
