Legendary coach Tony Sarsland installed a neutral zone trap in practice on Monday and after one period it seemed his Elks were quick learners. "It was the first time we've played against a trap this season and I thought our kids handled it well." Maple Grove coach Gary Stefano said. Elk River/Zimmerman held one of the states most explosive offenses in Maple Grove to just nine shots and no goals after the 1st period.  Play became more offensive in the 2nd. Maple Grove broke the trap for two goals on 11 shots and took a 2 to 1 lead into the third where they added another goal to seal the victory. "We are without our fastest player", said Sarsland referring to Andrew Zerban.  Zerban was out serving a one game suspension for a hip check (with knee out) in a prior game. "That definitely made a difference in the game (not having Zerban)."

Moorhead scored a breakaway goal with 2 seconds remaining in the overtime to end a thrilling comeback and what many in the stands called the days most exciting game thus far. Tony Uglum's breakaway goal beat on a low wrist shot was a thrilling finish for Moorhead. Trailing 4 to 2 heading into the third period the Spuds got 2 third period goals by Nicholas Uglem to force overtime.
