IN THE NEWS: New Jersey team coming to Minnesota

Below is just a little story out of New Jersey about the trip that Delbarton School is about to take to Minnesota to play little hockey and to experience the 'State of Hockey' while they are here. They will be playing Holy Family Catholic and Breck in regular games while also playing Hill-Murray in an exhibition game this week.

Road trip, take two

Following a highly-successful two-game road trip to Rhode Island in mid-December, the Delbarton hockey team will hit the road once again on Thursday when the Green Wave heads to Minnesota for three games in four days.

After facing Bergen Catholic in league play on Tuesday, Delbarton will depart for Minnesota for games against Breck, Holy Family Catholic, and an exhibition contest against the highly-regarded Hill-Murray school in St. Paul. The second road trip of the season for the Green Wave follows on the heels of a pre-Christmas venture to Rhode Island where the Morristown school won back-to-back games over defending state champions Hendricken and LaSalle.

The trip will also include taking in an Anaheim Ducks-Minnesota Wild NHL contest at the XCEL Energy Center on Jan. 18 following the game against Breck where team members will get a chance to meet up with current Duck and former Delbarton star George Parros. Also on the itinerary is the U.S. Pond Hockey Championships in Lake Nokomis and a tour of the University of Minnesota on Saturday prior to the game against Holy Family, and a visit to the water park and dinner at the Mall of America on Sunday.

"Minnesota high school hockey is a way of life out there and we're really excited that our kids will get to experience it," said Delbarton head coach Bruce Shatel. "In addition to playing against some of the best teams in the state, the off-ice activities we have planned should really add to the experience. Any time you can get away as a team it's great. We're hoping it's an experience the kids will never forget."

The Green Wave are coming off perhaps their biggest win of the season on Saturday when they skated to a 4-1 victory over defending non-public state champion St. Augustine.
